Papanui Softball Club:
A brand new committee going through cartwheels to try and get players into teams ready to start the new season No - not really cartwheels but a lot of effort is being put in.. We need to thank a lot of people for their assistance last season. We say goodbye to Anne Marie Hoogenboezem, Margaret Cuttance and Adreanna Duncan from committee and thank them for all the work they have given our fine club.

Also need to put a vote of thanks to all the financing we received from Scottswood Trust, NZ Community Trust, Lion Foundation, Eureka Trust and Pub Charity Trust. Also others who helped with financing on our Sponsorship side. Special thanks to Boyd Chamberlain Architecture, Kevin Mackley Carriers, Colin Sutherland Finance Brokers, Dave Taiepa & Whanau Carpetlayers, Woolbrokers and Gary Clarke Plastics.

A special thanks to all who supported our ham raffles.

Now don't forget our garage sale which we will be holding on Saturday 15 September at 8.30 am in the morning.

Your Executive is:

Brett Williams as President with Brendon Terrey as Vice President.

New Club Captains for the older grades are Jo Harris and Jo Nation. Thanks for your help guys.
Debbie and Darren Vaeulaga are continuing with the Gear Custodian role. I am sure they are finding it much easier this season as they were responsible for a mammoth effort getting all our gear and uniforms back last season.

Your Executive is – Colin Sutherland, Caroline Leigh, Susanah Leigh, Racheal Cumming who in tandem with Dale Terrey is taking over the roles of Senior Club Captains. A welcome to Ingrid Te Mete, Sue Harrison and Karen Calder who will be assisting Lesley.
Your Chief Executive Officer is Lesley Byrne. For more info on the exectutive go check out the profiles page.

Papanui Softball Club would like to take this opportunity to thank Tony Butler for all the work he has done as groundsman over the years and also thank Brendon Terrey in getting the skin diamond ready to be played on this season. The batting cage is still a thorn in our side with work we are doing on it being hindered by vandalism. Fortunately some of the players are using the cage for batting practice without the pitching machine.

Don’t forget our noticeboard outside the front door of the clubrooms
This will be upgraded weekly once we are able to get someone responsible to take over the upgrading of this.

Silver Club Mark Club (04/10/05)
The Papanui Softball Club has been awarded the Silver ClubMark Award. Congratulations to Lesley Byrne and her committee for the work they have put in to completing this. Papanui are the first softball club in Canterbury to achieve the Silver ClubMark status. Well done!!
The ClubMark scheme covers strategic planning, health and safety issues and policies, financial planning and sustainability, coach development, communication, volunteer recognition, responsible alcohol use, Smokefree promotion, injury management, first aid, Sunsmart and Inclusive environments. Being a ClubMark club signals to the wider community that the Papanui Softball Club is a well organized, viable and healthy organization that values each of the aforementioned areas. This has been maintained.

At last call the Papanui Club was the only softball club with a Club Mark.

Keep in Mind
John Williams Memorial Tournament. This tournament is set down for the second weekend in February. A great success last season and look forward to even better things the season coming up.

Brian Henry Waine Memorial Cup Game – we will be trying to regain the trophy from the Richmond/Keas although it will not be hosted by our club this season.

Take a walk around Papanui Domain with me
For those of you who have children we have swings and slides outside the clubrooms beside
the new boxing gym and toilets. There are plans to upgrade the playground but that is in the future. On the front corner of the clubrooms there is a box that the draw for each week is put in. Have a look to see who and where you are playing and any events happening in the club.
Papanui High School is at the back of our ground behind the creek.
These people are very helpful if we have an overspill and need to use their grounds but please let a club captain know if you are using them. And as we walk towards the skin diamond that has been on the park for over 30 years we appreciate the wonderful setting under the trees and with seating for people to watch the trainings and games.
And now the problematic batting cage which is still in the throws of being built. There is still a major effort being put into this and this time we are making no promises when it will be up and running. It would just be tempting fate to do so.

Tony Butler is our groundsman and will help where he can but please respect his wishes with regard to use of the diamonds.
He is there to ensure we have diamonds still to play on at the end of the season.

And after having walked around the diamond it is time to walk into our clubrooms to sit and chat with team members and opposition playing members. This clubrooms is your clubrooms and we welcome everyone to come in and be part of the camraderie of the Papanui Softball Club.

Softball in Canterbury:
I have discovered that unless we are involved in anything other than our own particular area of the game we are unaware of what else happens in softball in this part of Canterbury.
All T Ball is played at Hay Paddock which is at the Hagley Park between Moorehouse Avenue and the commencement of Blenheim Road. As is under 11 softball and under 13 softball on Saturday mornings. All other junior softball, under 15 and under 17 is played at Smokefree Ballpark on Saturday mornings. Under 19 junior softball is played at Smokefree Ballpark on Monday nights. For newcomers to Canterbury and there are some of them, Smokefree Ballpark is on Pages Road behind Cowle Stadium.
Now when it comes to softball on Saturday afternoons, there is always softball at Papanui Domain. The adjacent clubrooms are open from 3 pm on Saturdays for anyone who would like to come and watch some softball of a good standard and come into our clubrooms to make themselves known. We at Papanui welcome our parents and junior players to the clubrooms and also people from away from Christchurch. It would be great to see some more of our players who never seem o get near our clubrooms too.
Papanui has a fine facility with playing fields and adjacent clubrooms, something few other clubs are lucky enough to have.

WE WILL BE PUTTING MORE INFORMATION ON LINE ONCE WE HAVE OUR TEAMS ORGANISED AND ARE UP AND RUNNING.

Papanui Tigers Coaching Panels
Premier women welcome back Carl Tuinenga and Brent Hazeldean who had a very successful year last season.

Colin Sutherland has taken over the reins of the premier mens team and will have Steve Cate assisting him.

Others stepping up to take on responsibility are Dave Dixon with the assistance of Jo Harris with our young mens team , Karen Anderson with our more experience reserve grade team and we are still looking for a coach for our other reserve grade womens team who will be a young team dipping their toes in the open grade waters.

Papanui Softball Club have been striving over the years to provide channels for our younger players to come through to the premier grade at the risk of other clubs seeing our nurturing grades easy pickings to give our youngsters early premier experience.

We are so lucky to have so much experience in the coaching field and on top of
this we have at least two fully qualified New Zealand scorers in Vicki Griffith
with our premier women and Lesley Byrne with our premier men. Also Susannah Leigh ,
Lyn Lockhart and Anne Marie Hoogenboezem and we still lay claim to Moira Annandale.

Down the grades we welcome back coaches like Wayne Inwood with the Straycats team, Russell Kerrigan with the Wildcats, Brett Williams with The Tigers, new coach Steve Hutchison with our Topcats, a new coach for our D womens team and another new coach yet to be named with our mixed team.

Among the juniors we still have Carl Tuinenga , Tony Peters, Colin Sutherland,
Gary Bishop, Andrea Cassidy and Phil and Keeno back for more hard work and people like Murray Gibson, Morgan Lynn, Jo Harris, Steve Fuller, Dale Terrey, Gouldie, Mike Wilson, Katrina Tillman, Robin Moore and others putting their hands up to coach teams.

As always still looking for coaches, assistant coaches , managers and scorers.

Remember a load shared is a load halved.
